What role might experience and intuition play in science?
Which ideas of consciousness across the millennia are the most compelling?
What do some modern and contemporary theoretical physicists have in common with Sufi and Daoist thought?
We invite you to explore with us these ideas and others that I studied as a graduate student in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Journey with us in discovering ways to engage in “practical philosophy,” how we might use it in our everyday lives for the benefit of ourselves, our community, and the wider world. No prior knowledge of philosophy is needed to attend.
Philosophy on the Sound is based in Seattle. We meet in person to discuss readings and podcasts. We will also invite guest lecturers to share with us their perspectives, research, and experiences related to humanities’ perennial questions. Such explorations can bring meaning to our lives and give us insights in navigating the societies we live in today.
Discover what you and the thinkers whom I have studied have in common—philosophers, scientists, scholars, shamans, and mystics—East and West, contemporary and ancient—whose wisdom speaks to this moment. Not least, we can learn from the people who have inspired you. Our meetings are a participatory gathering in which anyone who wishes to contribute does so. Or, if you prefer to simply come and listen, you are most welcome, too.
To date our philosophers wear many professional hats: authors, artists, teachers, a tea seller and others. We invite you to bring your unique perspective to our budding organization.
Please join us for evening gatherings at the Kingston Village Green and at the Edmonds Library twice a month, every other week to discuss ways in which we can cultivate a community of thinkers, across generations, on both sides of the Puget Sound. Please see the events page for our monthly schedule dates and times.
